As many of you know, I decided to ring in the new year with minor shoulder surgery. I know, woohoo right? Well, it's two weeks out now. I'm healing well and happy to be back doing what I love; making my clients sweat and helping them be the best version of themselves : ) Every day I'm feeling improvement! But despite continued progress, it is slow, and I have already had to remind myself to be patient.
For example, it takes me twice as long to do things like unload groceries, wearing this sling is getting old, and I anxiously await the doc's approval to start PT!!As you can see, my patience is certainly being tested and I need to tap into some resources to keep a positive attitude. As I see it, my best friends these next six months will be patience and commitment.

You see, It wasn't a no-brainer, like when you brake your ankle and either have the surgery, or don't walk again. Unfortunately, the decision was a bit more complicated. Yet, I knew that even though surgery was going to be better for my shoulder in the long run, it was going to feel like two steps forward, one step back for quite some time.
So, the week before surgery, I made a list of all the reasons why I decided to go this route. I made it pretty, like a vision board and hung it up on my bedroom wall. It has already been super helpful in keeping me from getting down and doubting my decision, helping me stay committed to the big picture.
This got me thinking about your goals and vision for the year ahead. I'm sure you've been thinking about them. You may have even already made your list and begun tackling them. But have you thought about what obstacles might get in your way of actually achieving said goals? Because, there WILL be obstacles. Also, most lifestyle changes take time before you can see or feel the effects.
In what ways are your patience and commitment to these goals going to be tested? and what are you going to do to prevent it from being another year where those "new year's resolutions" are a distant memory by March? As I see it , patience and commitment are going to be your best friends too, no matter what your goals are.
One helpful tool is to plan ahead and visualize how you want your future to look. Create your own vision board! Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. If you visualize it, and are consistently reminded of how amazing achieving these goals will make you feel, it will happen. My clients that have made their own boards have had the most success.
