When you have a desired outcome and you unconsciously work against yourself, this is called self-sabotage. Why do we get in our own way? Why are we our worst enemy? Why do we make this a more difficult journey than it needs to be? What areas in your life do you need to address that are contributing to your self-sabotage? Are you:
Setting unrealistic goals? Possibly you have a medical condition that requires additional attention or your time frame is too short. Do you weigh yourself daily or multiple times a day, looking for instant results?
Depending solely on willpower to get you through the day? What support can you call upon for help?
Clear on your BIG WHY for improved health? Is your BIG WHY larger than your LITTLE WHY of losing weight for your 20th high school reunion or trip to Hawaii?
Falling for should/should not fads that deprive you of certain foods one day and cause you to binge the next?
Allowing friends and family to make decisions for you? Are your relationships supporting you?
Letting your emotions make your choices? How do you use food or alcohol as a coping mechanism? Do you use TV a way to self-soothe? Does your self-talk say you will never achieve this no matter what, so why try?
In love with who you are and feed yourself positive messages or do you hate yourself? Did you learn to be self-critical growing up or believe that you are unworthy?
As you can see, the answers may lie more in your mind than in your stomach. no
Ultimately it's fear that holds most of us back from realizing our goals. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of that inner critical voice, fear of pain and rejection, and fear of what we could lose. What are you afraid of?
