When my family visited recently… they brought COVID as a souvenir : )
So I ran straight to Pilgrim’s, our local coop, and grabbed some Fire Cider!
My husband and I did not get sick — and I’m convinced it’s because we move exercise daily, eat clean, and keep our immune systems dialed in … and take the occasional shot or two of this. That and a little Fire Cider, my favorite herbal tonic that strengthens immunity, help with digestion, and warm you up on a cold day!
Fire Cider is an old-school herbal remedy that:
🌶️ Strengthens immunity
🌿 Boosts digestion
🔥 Warms you right up on a cold Idaho day
Here’s my favorite fire cider recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
½ cup freshly peeled + grated ginger root
½ cup freshly grated horseradish root
1 medium onion, chopped
10 cloves garlic, crushed or chopped
2 organic jalapeños, chopped (optional 😉)
1 lemon, zest + juice
2 Tbsp dried rosemary leaves
1 Tbsp turmeric powder or 2 Tbsp fresh grated turmeric
¼ tsp cayenne
Organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar
¼ cup raw honey (or to taste)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add everything except the vinegar + honey into a quart jar.
Pour apple cider vinegar over until fully covered (no floating bits to avoid spoilage).
Cover with parchment under the lid (or use a plastic lid).
Shake it up and store in a cool, dark place for 4–6 weeks, giving it a shake every couple of days.
Strain with cheesecloth, squeeze out every drop
Stir in honey to taste.
Store sealed in the fridge.
Do a shot of this when you feel a cold coming on, or before a meal for an extra kick.
